A Little Chit-Chat today and a Recipe IRISH SODA BREAD!

It is soooooooo cold here at the Jersey shore right now! Yesterday, it was 14 degrees at 9:30 a.m. I took my son to basketball practice and nearly froze my dupa off!  Since, it's wintertime I decided to bake something new from a recipe I had stashed away several years.

Doesn't it look good?  It was GOOD!

This recipe comes from Jenny's Restaurant in Lahaska, Pennsylvania. Although, Jenny's is no longer in Lahaska I am still enjoying their soda bread.

Years ago, my friends and I would go to New Hope, PA for a girl's weekend. Jenny's was our favorite restaurant to have lunch.

BEST IRISH SODA BREAD

4 cups all purpose flour
3 tbs.  sugar
4 tbs.  baking powder
1 cup  currants or dark raisins
½ tsp.  baking soda
2 cups buttermilk
1 tsp.   salt
a little melted butter
a little sugar
1 tsp. cinnamon

Heat oven 350 degrees. Grease and flour cookie sheet. (I used PAM and no flour). Mix flour, baking powder, baking soda, salt and sugar. Stir in raisins. Add buttermilk, mix until it forms a dough ball, add cinnamon, mix slightly. Knead by machine or hand for 5 min. (I did it by hand right in the bowl-I put flour on my hands so not to stick). Form dough in 3 or 4 oval balls. Bake 35-40 minutes until loaf is lightly browned and sounds hollow. Remove to wire rack (I used a pizza rack) brush with the melted butter and dust with the little bit of sugar.

I don't pretend to be a great cook. I usually take a recipe and make it my own. Usually...it comes out pretty darn good! Enjoy! This soda bread makes great toast.

Embossed Earrings

I have been fun using german silver! I have 99% of the time used sterling silver or gold filled metals. Using my disc cutter I cut one inch round discs, embossed the discs with my Vintaj Big Shot, oxidized the earrings and here they are...oh and little purple beads. I like the "long legs" on the ear wires, don't you? They are surgical steel ear wires. My ears are sensitive and I have no trouble using these ear wires. Very lightweight!

They are now listed on Etsy... https://www.etsy.com/shop/ToBeMeJewelry

Yike! Oh My Poor Blog!

I have not given any attention to my poor blog! It is just too easy to slip away from blogging these days. There is just too much to do with all these social sites. After awhile, one can just have brain freeze and disappear for a bit. Sometimes, it's a good thing. So here I am trying again to say something. Hmmm.....something! Ha, no not that funny.

I must say it has been quite busy for To Be Me Jewelry. It's fun to do shows and meet new faces and returning customers. At home, family has seemed to take over most of the time. I have a son with multiple disabilities. As he has gotten older his seizures have reappeared and once in a while meltdowns. He is a sweetie and of course can melt my heart with the greatest of ease. I love the fact that he enjoys arts and crafts (like me). He always tells me I'm pretty even when I'm looking my worse!

Yes, life has been a challenge this past year good and not so good.  But, isn't life just wonderful?

I wish you all a wonderful Fall season!

p.s.  I will be back soon!!!!

My goodness! What a gloomy day here at the Jersey shore! A great day for creativity and catching up on little things around the house that we avoid doing. Tomorrow, is suppose to be a picture perfect day so I'll spend the day tomorrow outside and with friends.

For now I have a new event to announce (this is one of those catch up things!) I'm great at creating and not so with writing...

Awaiting Supplies...

Why is it I wait to order supplies until I'm practically out of whatever I need??? Oh my, oh my...this my beadheads puts me in a ~I have to now clean my workshop mood~ . I'm not a neat freak by no means. My workshop is messy and that's the way I like it! I must admit it is time to get my act together and clean. I started this morning and of course needed so far about five breaks. Here I am blogging away...well, this isn't officially a break, right? This is work, by golly!

I decided this year to up my game and do several craft shows around my area. I also decided to make so great bangles at a really really, I do mean really great price so stay tuned beadheads....

Here is one of the bangles that I designed the other day. You may find it listed at www.Etsy.com/store/ToBeMeJewelry to purchase. A mere $38.00 ~ yep! A wonderful handcrafted deep blue focal bead makes this bangle feel comfy-cozy. All sterling silver and free shipping in the USA to boot!

I must admit I've been neglecting my Etsy Shop lately. I usually use my regular website www.ToBeMeJewelry.com . I will try my best to get that Etsy Shop in order this year.

What do you think of this bangle called Bebop Lampwork Bangle?

Super Storm Sandy 2012

So many people have lost their homes or flooded out by Super Storm Sandy. The shore area where I live has changed overnight. I am sure all of you have been reading about Super Storm Sandy and watching on the news. It's very sad to "not" see the normal shorelines that we all took for granted. I have always thought - we are so lucky to live in New Jersey - nothing happens to us - we're so safe where we live. Wow, was I so wrong!

I know as New Jerseyans we are unique in so many ways. We are very tough, go with the flow and speak our mind without filters (at times). We drive like a burglar in a get-away car and eat like we're going to the electric chair. One thing I know we do love our New Jersey. Our beaches give us good vibes in our heart and soul.

I say a prayer each night for those who have lost so much. There are no other words to say ~ except my words I say privately in my prayers.

We are Jersey strong. Strong people. Good people - no matter young or old - we have it going on!

Hurricane Sandy at the Jersey Shore

Hi Beadheads!

Just a quick little post to wish all my readers on the East coast be safe! I'm only about 10-15 minutes from the ocean and right now the wind is howling and the trees are REALLY swaying. I have no photos to post because I'm not opening my door! My electric went out for about a half hour and then came back on. Sandy should hit where I am around 6:00 p.m.

So gang be safe!

Tracy Reese in Country Living Magazine May 2012

I finally sat down today to catch up on my magazines. I've been a fan of Country Living Magazine since they have been in existence. Ok, so it's the end of July and I'm reading May's issue. Yes, I'm that behind. I found a wonderful article on designer, Tracy Reese. Lovely photos of her finds from Walmart's, Antique stores, Ballard Designs. Placed perfectly in her home these finds were simply outstanding. What caught my eye was this comfy-cozy dress. I tried to find it on Tracy Reese website and on the internet but I must be too late. It's nowhere to be found at this point.

This dress would look fantastic with my Scarlet Silver Bangle...

Tracy Reese dresses Michelle Obama and Taylor Swift.  How cool is that?  Well, that's my chit-chat for today. Take care, Beadheads! Remember to take care of yourself.
